Visa
- A prior visa is required for Yemeni citizens, except holders of an Ethiopian identity card.
- Passengers married to an Ethiopian citizen, and their children under 16, may obtain a visa on arrival in Addis Ababa.
- Passengers on a visit visa must hold a confirmed round-trip ticket.
Transit through Addis Ababa
- Transit must not exceed 12 hours.
- Beyond that, the passenger must arrange hotel accommodation at the airport.
Vaccination
- A Yellow Fever certificate is required if arrival occurs within 6 days of departing from or transiting a country at risk of Yellow Fever transmission.
- All COVID-related requirements have been removed.
What may be brought into Ethiopia
- For passengers aged 18 and above: 400 cigarettes or 250 g of tobacco, and 600 ml of perfume, duty free.
- Cats and dogs: a veterinary health certificate issued at the point of origin is required.
General instructions
- Passport valid more than 6 months for treatment, tourism and visit purposes.
- Children under 16 may not travel unaccompanied; with an escort, the father's approval certified by official authorities is required.
- Aged 16 to 18: may travel unaccompanied with the father's certified approval.
- Critically ill patients may not be booked or travel without an accompanying doctor, and patients may not be booked in First or Business class.
- Pets: coordinate with us before booking, and at least 24 hours before departure where an extra seat is needed.

Excess baggage from Addis Ababa to Yemen
- ETB 520 per additional kilogram.
- The rate is set by Yemenia Airways and may change without notice. Please confirm it with our office before travel.
Checked pieces and booking class
- Passengers arriving in Yemen are allowed two checked pieces, for bookings in class Q or higher.
- If the booking is below class Q the two-piece entitlement does not apply — check with us before purchase.
- The transit exception is set out in the next section.
Transit exception — arriving in Yemen
- If your international ticket on the foreign carrier includes 2 pieces of 23 kg each, Yemenia carries both pieces and does not charge the 16 kg difference.
- An infant is allowed 23 kg instead of 10 kg in this case.
- Condition: the transit must be under 24 hours. Beyond that, full excess baggage charges apply.
- The booking-class floor still applies: the two-piece entitlement is for bookings in class Q or higher.
- Please confirm your transit duration and ticket details with us before purchase.
If you are not a Yemeni national
- Nationals of Egypt, Jordan, Sudan and Malaysia may be exempt from a prior entry visa when arriving directly from their country of nationality, for arrival via Aden, Seiyun or Socotra.
- Other nationalities require a prior entry visa, except holders of valid Yemeni residency with a valid exit and re-entry visa.
- Seiyun-issued visas are accepted only at Seiyun airport, and Socotra-issued visas only at Socotra, with domestic transit permitted.
- Holders of GCC passports may require security approval depending on the airport of arrival.
- Saudi nationals: approval from the Saudi Interior Ministry or through Absher, plus security approval at the Yemeni airport of arrival.
- Holders of a European passport or US permanent residency who qualify for a visa on arrival must carry a valid Visa or Mastercard bank card.
- Turkish nationals: an invitation letter identifying the sponsoring entity, the entry and departure dates, and confirming its responsibility for the traveller throughout the stay.
- Travellers arriving for humanitarian work, through international organisations, for media or journalism, or holding diplomatic passports: coordinate in advance with the relevant authorities, especially the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- All foreign nationals departing Yemen require an exit visa before travel.
If you are a Yemeni holding a foreign passport
- Any one of the following establishes Yemeni nationality: a nationality certificate for those born outside Yemen, a Yemeni passport, a Yemeni national ID card, the Yemeni father's passport, or a Yemeni family card.
- You are not required to present all of them.
- If none is available, a prior entry visa issued by a Yemeni embassy abroad is required.

- Wheelchair: USD 25.
- Medical lift: USD 50.
- First oxygen bottle: USD 100 · second bottle: USD 50.
